The advanced technology in hospital: PACS

The advanced technology in hospital: PACS
With the rapid development in the IT industry, the digital image, computer and networking technologies make Dell's picture archiving and communications system a reality in hospitals now which is called PACS. This system can save images, search, transfer, display, process, copy, and print. Both software and hardware are included in this system.
The dreams of people of telemedicine started the study of PACS. After 1990 with the progress of computer calculation and the communication technology development, the PACS study became the standard for a digital imaging system in the medical field. At the same time, the cost of the PACS was reduced due to the application of advanced and sophisticated technologies in the relevant industries. Around 2000, the "no-film" diagnosis requirement regarding the PACS has been put into practice in hospitals since then.
There are three categories of PACS which are MiniPACS, Whole hospital PACS, and region PACS. The MiniPACS is for photographic offices or departments, the Whole hospital PACS makes all images and pictures available to every corner of the hospital, the Region PACS is used by government and social security departments to build up a platform for the regional medical resources application and communication which serves the public with regards to the medical field.
The advantage of PACS is obvious: the digital data storage save a lot of money for hospitals on film and case management, and the no-film radiological department is available. The sharing of information and image makes the diagnosis efficient since the doctors can get the needed information from anywhere in hospital. On the other hand, the medical report system reduces the doctor's works, and the complete preserved images and data are the essential resource of the further scientific study and education and can be used as evidence for the medical dissertations.
It is undoubted that there will be more development and improvement on PACS in future due to the endless technologies development. In another 50 year, people could get treatment at home by themselves by following the interactive guide of their PE on computers with no doctor beside, or doctor will visit you before your calls while you just feel uncomfortable. The PACS system has helped spur innovation in the medical field and help streamline how information is used and collection at the hospitals and private medical practices. Digital imaging has replaced the paper system as the prime system.
